As you can imagine, I can’t find many roller coasters that are actually enjoyable, since most of them have at least one big drop. I actually really love roller coasters - I like the speed and the banking, I just hate the feeling of my stomach bottoming out when they drop. This coaster was especially exciting for me because it looked pretty mild. For anyone unfamiliar with Disney World, Slinky Dog Dash is a roller coaster that came out a few years ago in the Toy Story Land section of Hollywood Studios. Slinky Dog Dash had been temporarily shut down, but I was hoping it might open again quickly and I could get on it before the night was over. Instead, I decided to venture into Hollywood Studios to see if I could get onto the other two rides I wanted to do there: Slinky Dog Dash and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. After I read up on it a bit, I wasn’t sure, so I decided to pass (without giving anything about the ride away, my friends said afterward that I would’ve been able to ride it without any issue - so don’t let my fears keep you from riding!). As someone who hates rides with drops and gets motion sickness from some types of 4D experiences, I wanted to research the ride to see if I would enjoy it. On Monday, my friend Rachel had gotten up at 7 am on the dot to get us into the queue for a new “Star Wars” ride Rise of the Resistance. Okay, the pool wasn’t right either, maybe I should go to Disney Springs. Now I feel bored and lonely in the hotel room, maybe I need to go down by the pool. I kept changing my location to see if I would feel better, but every time I went somewhere else, I just felt like I should move again.īeing in the park isn’t doing it for me, I’m going to go back to the hotel. It didn’t seem like much could bring me joy. If you’ve ever read “The Phantom Tollbooth,” I was essentially Milo on the very first page (I may write about this passage someday as I’ve always identified with it). While Disney has actually always been one of the happiest places on earth™ for me, this time around, there was no denying that I was in a depressive fog.įor a lot of the trip, I experienced numbness and restlessness. This trip was actually planned for last year, but with COVID, it was postponed until this year. I spent the last week of August in Disney thanks to one of my best friends from high school and her family. In my opinion, Slinky Dog Dash gives the classic Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith a run for its money, but that might just be my nostalgia talking. There are no loops, corkscrews, or sudden drops here, so it w on’t be a “ruff” ride for young passengers! This “inter-ruff-tion” captures the feel of a pull-black, wind-up, and launch toy.įor being a roller coaster, the ride height requirement for Slinky Dog Dash is only 38 inches (even less than other mild coasters like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ). Why is “The Big Stop” and second launch part of the design? Disney’s Imagineers purposefully crafted the coaster to imitate the movement of a toy. The latter stops your momentum entirely, giving you a brief pause before sending you over its huge hill. Slinky Dog Dash is the only Walt Disney World coaster with two launches : at the beginning of your ride and halfway through after you pass under the bridge.
